The Sakleshpura tahsildar has issued an order directing people not to venture near waterfalls, rivers, streams or hilly areas citing incessant rain in the region.
Tahsildar KS Supreetha, in an order issued on July 7, appealed to people to avoid these areas in view of the incessant rain, warning of dangers such as landslides, road slides, falling trees and sudden increase in water flow in local water bodies.
The order informed that the rain had increased the flow of water and made the ground slippery, posing a danger to anyone venturing into such areas.
Citing the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other relevant provisions, the tahsildar restricted the movement of people to these places. She warned that violators would face prosecution under relevant provisions of the law.
She said that homestays and resorts hosting visitors and tourists during the monsoon season must ensure the safety of their guests, adding that the owners will be held responsible for any unusual incident.
Elsewhere, with the southwest monsoon intensifying in neighboring Kodagu district, several areas received moderate to heavy rainfall on July 7, prompting the district administration to declare a holiday for anganwadi centers, schools and colleges on Wednesday, July 8 as a precautionary measure.
