Despite the promise of providing free and compulsory education to all children aged 6 to 14 in government schools, some public schools in Karnataka (KPS) were found to be charged for students in the range of 2,500 to 5,000 GBP per year.
KPS parents in KR PET in the Mandya district claimed that the school charged students in the English Section Section according to the decision of the Committee on the Development and Monitoring of the School (SDMC). Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) KR Pet, HT Manju, is chairman of the SDMC.
Parents and a member of the SPMC school complained about the Block Education (Beo) KR Pet Taluk, but no measures were taken after a month.
The state government launched KPS throughout the state in 2018-19 to teach from pre-school to class 12 under one roof. These schools offer bilingual classes, including the English medium, from the pre -school section. The government issued an order and created separate regulations for SDMCS KPS.
In accordance with this, it was proposed to create an SDMC consisting of a total of 16 parents in schools with more than 1,023 children. This SDMC is chaired by the local MLA. Several subcommitations have been created for the development of the school and SDMC can receive donations from the public and donors and develop the school.
KV Trilokchandra, a public teaching commissioner in response to this matter, said: “It is completely against the rules to charge annual fees from government schools.
Violation of the rules
However, the KPS SDMC in KPS organized a meeting and decided to collect fees from children and it was found that the fees were collected illegally every year.
While some students received income in the name of schools, some incomes were in the name of a private coaching center. Some students were also asked to put fees directly on the common bank accounts of the school head and chairman of the SDMC.
“Under the right to Education Act 2009, children should be provided free and compulsory education for children aged 6 to 14 years in all government schools. However, our KPS has been collected for LKG students,” said the parent, “said the parent.
Parents claim that many KPS in the Mandya district also charged annual fees to children. “SDMC has no right to determine fees in government schools. Most children of study in government schools are economically and socially backward and deprived of education. Even after complaining about it, no measures were taken.
