Minister of Agriculture N. Cheluvarayaswamy said on Friday that approximately 60 to 70% of the Karnataka population depends on agriculture and the government undertakes to continuously support this sector.
At the one-day seminar on the establishment of a market at agriculture at the district level (R-MART) organized by the agricultural department and the district agricultural education institute, Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy, who is also the Minister responsible for the Mandya district, said that the progress of the state is dealing with the economic power of farmers. “With this in mind, more schemes will be expanded to the agricultural department and farmers should be best used with them,” he said.

He called for the organizations of farmers ‘producers (FPO) and greater focus on branding, processing, adding value and marketing to strengthen farmers’ income.
Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy said that the state faces lower urea shortages compared to other states and added that measures were taken to ensure early delivery during the sowing season.
