The Karnataka of the State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) accused the police inspector and two of its employees for illegal detaining three people at the Vijayapura police station in the rural district of Bengalur for false accusations of theft and torture to confess to a crime.
After the release, the trio was treated in a jurisdiction government hospital and filed a complaint at the same police station and accused the brutality staff before approaching KSHRC.
KSHRC, who acted on the complaint, examined this matter and found inspector Ravi MS, probably Chandrappa and Constable Bhimrao guilty of accusations against them. On the basis of a report on the investigation, the KSHRC ordered the state government to pay a compensation of 50,000 GBP of each of these three victims and deduct it from the salaries of the three accused. The agency also asked the government to make an order and submit the measures taken within one month.
The incident dates back to June 19, 2023, when the accused police officials convened Syed Nasira together with their friends Ghouse Peer and Asif – all employees of a private company – illegally detained them at the police station and tortured them.
The trio bought an SUV from a person and was looking for help to the police for a difference over the payment of the vehicle owner. Instead of taking legal steps, the accused detained them at the station, attacked them and tried to frame them in the case of theft of the vehicle.
When the defendants summoned the KSHRC, the accused denied and claimed that the trio was questioned in the case of theft of the vehicle and sent home. However, the CCTV shots of the cameras located at the police station, which were confiscated and analyzed, revealed illegal detention and violations of human rights towards the victims. Police staff did not hold any records about the trio, nor did they create them in court, which is a clear case of damage to duties and human rights violations, KSHRC found.
