The condition of Karnataka Minister D. Sudhakar, who was admitted to a private hospital following a lung infection, is said to be critical.
Hospital sources said he was placed on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), an advanced life support system used in cases of severe, potentially reversible heart or lung failure.
Sources in the chief minister’s office said his health had deteriorated in the last four to five days due to worsening respiratory complications.
Mr. Sudhakar, who holds the portfolio of planning and statistics, is currently being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Yeshwanthpur hospital and remains under strict medical supervision, sources added.
