Karnataka suffered nearly 80,000 GBP Crore in losses in illegal fraud in iron ore extraction, law and parliamentary matters of Minister HK Patil informed the legislative council on Friday.
Participation in the discussion during the passage of Karnataka appointment of the Commissioner for Renewal for Seizure and Straightening of Introduction of Illegal Mining and Proceedings of Crime, 2025, said that the quantum of iron ore illegally and balanced in 2005 and 2011 would estimate about 20 Lakh Crore ton, which is 4.003 per tonne.
According to him, 111 companies were indulged in illegal mining in the state. “The recovery Commissioner is named to get money,” Patil said.
Cabinet’s decision
Mr. Patil led the cabinet subcommittee on illegal mining, which recently submitted its report to the main minister and its 11 recommendations accepted the cabinet.
The cabinet decided to create fast trace courts to test cases of illegal extraction. She also decided to review the “B” reports in 29 cases submitted to the courts of SIT and to remove the “B” reports in eight other cases.
She also decided to ask the Center for a return of CBI cases but were not investigated even after 10 years. These cases will be handed over. It also decides to set up investigative teams in a forest department case to estimate losses for illegal mining.
