Minister of School Education Madhu Bangarappa, who is also the Minister responsible for the Shivamogg district, said that the Karnataka has granted the administrative approval to grant CRORE 6.5 GBP to install the navigation equipment for Shivamogg Airport.
In the social media post, Mr. Bangarappa said that the amount was required to install the Doppler VHF Omni Direction Range, which was necessary for the management of the pilots to determine their position with regard to the goal. Due to the absence of equipment at the airport, flight landing was delayed or canceled many times due to poor visibility, the minister said. He could not land, the flights were diverted to other destinations, he added.

Recently, a member of Shivamogga Lok Sabha by Raghavendry and Mr. Bangarappa dealt with a public spit about this matter. Mr. Raghanendra, who expresses the displeasure of the delay in raising funds for installation of the facility, said the airport administration should be handed over to the Indian airport (AAI) instead of the state government. “I feel that I did badly by entrusting the state government to run the airport during the BJP rule in the state. Now it is difficult for us to get a few crores rupees,” he said.
Mr. Raghanendra said he was unable to combine shivamogg with new destinations due to the absence of a night landing device. “Although I have an airport in my hometown, I have to go to Hubball from Delhi and from there I have to travel on the road to reach Shivamoggy,” he said.
Bangappa, who led a serious exception to Mr. Raghanendra’s statement, claimed that the state government had spent money on the land and infrastructure of the airport. If AAI was handed over, some industrialists would now take over the airport, he claimed.
Shivamogg Airport started with Prime Minister Narendra Modim in February 2023. The airport began to operate from the airport in August 2023.
