Karnataka doctor death case: 45-year-old found lying in pool of blood with injured son — What we know so far | Today’s news

The recent murder of a doctor in Karnataka has sent shockwaves across the country. A 45-year-old anesthesiologist, who was a resident of Dharwad, was allegedly stabbed to death in his apartment. The doctor’s body was found lifeless on Wednesday in a pool of blood on a bedroom mattress with fatal stab wounds to the neck. His eight-year-old son suffered serious stab wounds in the apparent attack.

The incident came to light after the victim’s family members lodged a complaint with the suburban police station accusing the wife of misconduct. The deceased identified as Dr Kiran Honnannavar was employed in a private hospital. He lived with his family at Ranka Stello Apartments on Karnataka University Road. His eight-year-old son suffered serious stab wounds in the apparent attack. A disturbing video of the incident has gone viral, showing Honannavar’s wife scrolling on her phone next to her husband’s body.

According to a PTI report, his wife Dr. Priya taken into custody for questioning. His son was also found with severe stab wounds, which police said was an attempt on the child’s life. The state police immediately intervened in the emergency situation, rescued the boy and took him to the hospital. Initial investigation points to domestic disputes.

According to media reports, Honnannavar’s wife Dr. Priya, who is an eye doctor, dismissed inquiries from relatives and friends by saying that she was either resting or on duty. Suspecting that something was wrong, the doctor’s family members decided to check the residence on the sixth floor where they found him dead.

“There were only three people in the house,” the police say

“Why the incident took place, for what reason needs to be ascertained. There were only three people in the house – husband, wife and child. No one came from outside. We have to investigate what actually happened. A case of murder has been registered,” PTI quoted Commissioner N Shashikumar as saying.

Honnannavar’s wife appeared to be in shock and gave incoherent answers when questioned, police said. While a police investigation is underway to determine the exact motive for the murder, authorities are trying to determine if their child is autistic.

An NDTV report, citing a police statement, confirms that there was no indication of a conflict with the neighbors. Camera footage from the apartment complex will be examined as part of the investigation. According to police, the exact cause and circumstances of the killing will become clearer once the autopsy report is released and further evidence-based findings are made during the further investigation.
