Karnataka has sent 500 trained power service personnel and specialized equipment to Andhra Pradesh to help restore electricity infrastructure damaged by Cyclone Arnab.

The deployment follows a request by the Andhra Pradesh government for manpower and equipment to carry out restoration work in the cyclone-hit areas. The Karnataka government has mobilized teams under the supervision of Energy Minister KJ George as part of inter-state cooperation.

Chief Minister DK Shivakumar spoke to his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N. Chandrababu Naidu over phone and assured him of Karnataka’s support.

“Electricity is an essential service and its immediate restoration is essential for the welfare of the people affected by the disaster. Karnataka stands firmly with the people of Andhra Pradesh at this difficult time,” the Chief Minister said.

Mr. George said Karnataka teams will work closely with Andhra Pradesh officials to restore power supply as soon as possible through field-level coordination and deployment of specialized equipment.

The state sent 500 trained linemen, 15 Palfinger trucks equipped with cranes and earth augers, and 25 tractor-borne drilling machines. The teams were mobilized on an emergency basis and left for Andhra Pradesh on Monday afternoon and reached the state by midnight.

For effective deployment and coordination, each Electricity Supply Company (ESCOM) has appointed one Liaison Officer to interact with the concerned officials of Andhra Pradesh.

Linemen were divided into teams of 10, each led by a junior or assistant engineer. An executive engineer from each operation and maintenance circuit was assigned to supervise and coordinate the teams.

Drivers and operators accompany Palfinger trucks and tractor-mounted drills to ensure their efficient use at restoration sites. The State Government also provides contingency funds to cover travel, accommodation and other extraordinary expenses of deployed personnel.
