Traditionally, Bagina, which is a symbolic offer of the goddess of the river, is presented on both dams on the same day as soon as they reach the full level of the tank. It is an annual ritual, and besides being thanks to the reward of nature, it is also considered a symbolic connection with the agricultural community. This deviation from tradition, however, led to the murmurs and BJP has credited political motifs.
On Sunday, the party officials told the media people in Mysur that the water level in the cabini tank was intentionally maintained several feet below the full level of 2,284 ft, while the KRS tank was allowed to reach its maximum level of 124.80 feet.
“The cabini tank, which is smaller in capacity, usually reaches its full level of the tank almost a month before KRS. However, the drain from the cabini was intentionally maintained high to prevent this brand,” BJP said.
The party also claimed that the main Minister Siddaramaiah intentionally skipped the Bagina ritual in the cabini to raise unpleasant questions about illegal centers allegedly operated by a close assistant of one of his ministers near the dam.
