Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar extends support to Operation Toofan; South India DGP meeting on July 10

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has extended the Karnataka government’s support to Operation Toofan, an anti-drug initiative launched by the state government to curb the sale and distribution of drugs in Kerala.
Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala met Mr Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Wednesday to seek Karnataka’s cooperation in the operation.
During the meeting, Mr. Shivakumar assured Mr. Chennithal that Karnataka would extend full support to the initiative. Responding to Mr. Chennithal’s request for tighter surveillance along the Kerala-Karnataka border, the Karnataka Chief Minister also assured that additional police personnel would be deployed to strengthen inspection and enforcement activities in the border areas.
Follow-up measures
Congratulating the Kerala government on the success of Operation Toofan, Mr. Shivakumar said the mission was a model that could be emulated by other states. As a follow-up, he directed the Chief Secretary of Karnataka to initiate necessary steps.
Meanwhile, Mr Chennithala has called a meeting of the Directors General of Police (DGPs) of southern states on Friday (July 10) as part of Operation Toofan. The meeting will be held at the Thiruvananthapuram police headquarters to discuss coordinated efforts and other measures against the drug trade and its spread across the region.
