Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has directed officials to identify five cities other than Bengaluru for industrial development in the state.

The Chief Minister issued the instructions at a review meeting of the Department of Commerce and Industry in Bengaluru on Friday. Mr. Shivakumar directed officials to identify five suitable cities with airports and other infrastructure for the purpose.

“To create employment opportunities in various cities of the state, the intention is to promote the industry by providing special incentives to investors,” an official statement said.

To further strengthen the single window approval system for setting up the industry, he directed all concerned departments to complete the approval process within the stipulated time frame. He said he would discuss the matter with the ministers concerned.

22 departments and 119 services have been integrated under a single window system with an emphasis on digital and timely approval. Karnataka is ranked ninth in NITI Aayog’s Investor-Friendly Index.

Measures taken to attract investment from states like Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh were also discussed. Consultations have taken place regarding the reforms investors expect from the state, the report said.

Officials explained that in the last three years, Karnataka has been ranked third in the country’s manufacturing sector by attracting investments worth ₹5.58 lakh crore and efforts have been made to further improve this position.
