Karnataka Cabinet gave nod to IPL matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium | Today’s news

February 13, 2026

The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday decided to allow the KSCA to host IPL matches at the Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium here.

Cricket matches remained suspended at the stadium after celebrations to mark Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) maiden IPL title win in June 2025 ended in tragedy, leaving 11 dead and more than 30 injured in a stampede outside the venue.

The government formed a committee headed by Justice John Michael Cunha to investigate. It gave a lot of recommendations.

Later, a panel headed by Greater Bengaluru Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao was constituted to find out whether the recommendations were implemented or not.

“Today we have decided to allow the Indian Premier League matches to be played, but the government has asked the home ministry to rectify the conditions by issuing special orders (for the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and RCB to comply). The order may be issued in the next two days,” Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil told reporters.

One of the conditions, he said, was for the gates to be widened.

The minister also said that the cabinet discussed a special intensive review. There have been discussions in some places about the manner and process by which this is done. The Cabinet has asked the Department of Law and Parliamentary Affairs to study it and submit a report, Patil said.

Asked if the report would be submitted by the end of the month, he replied “certainly”.
