Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal wants the Karnataka government to order an inquiry into the safety of all buses and take strict action against companies that run vehicles without safety measures.
His comments came in the wake of an accident between a truck and a sleeper bus in Chitradurga district that claimed the lives of six people.
“It is very worrisome that burning buses have become a common phenomenon. The government should take strong action against any long-distance bus, i.e. sleeper, semi-sleeper and sit-only bus, run by private operators or state-run transport undertakings like KSRTC. If any bus is found violating safety protocols, its license should be canceled and their owners should continue to be jailed against the government for such offending commuters,” he told reporters in Vijayapur on December 25.
