
As part of ‘Operation Crackdown’, the Karimnagar police on Sunday arrested 12 persons for allegedly aiding cyber fraud through mule accounts.
Police have identified the prime accused as 22-year-old Mudugunti Rajeshwar Reddy, a resident of Bhagathnagar in Karimnagar, who allegedly ran an organized cyber fraud syndicate.
The Rajeshwar Reddy-led gang allegedly opened bank accounts of mules and sold passbooks, ATM cards and SIM cards to cybercriminals, aiding cyber fraud and layering the proceeds of fraudulent transactions.
As many as 12 members of the gang including Rajeshwar Reddy have been arrested in connection with six cases registered against them at Karimnagar Two-Town Police Station and three cases at Karimnagar One-Town Police Station.
All the accused hail from Karimnagar district.
Cases were filed against the accused under Section 66-D of the IT Act and relevant sections of the BNS.
Karimnagar Police Commissioner Gaush Alam lauded the city police for their coordinated efforts in nabbing members of the cyber fraud syndicate.
