Police accusations of negotiations under the pressure of the Congress government and “systematically targeting and harassing” individuals associated with Hindutva organizations, social workers and traders in Dakshin Kannada, Minister of Trade Union and Employment, Shobha Karandlaj, looking for police complaints (PCA).
In a letter addressed by NK Sudhindra Rao, PCA chairman and a copy marked on Tuesday, the Minister said the “intimidation formula” began shortly after a recent change in the police management in the mangalur and was almost exclusively focused on the Hindu community members.
“Many of those who have been harassed have no criminal background or history of illegal activity. The selective nature of these actions raises serious concerns about the abuse of police forces as a political vendetta tool, which is completely unacceptable in a democratic society.”
The Minister pointed out that the use of a state machine to intimidate and harass citizens not only violates their constitutional protection, but also violates the spirit of the Supreme Court’s instructions on police behavior.
“Such actions, if it is allowed to continue uncontrollability, risk that it undermines the credibility of the enforcement of law and disrupts the communal harmony in the region.”
Urging The Authority to Intervent to Stop Unlawful Actions, MS. Karandlaje Said, ”and Thorough and Impartial Inquiry Must Be Conducted Into the Conduct of the Police Office Involved and Those Found Guilty of Violation Constitutional Norms and Citizens’ Rights Should Be Held Accountable. Ensure That Police in Karnataka Remains Fair, Just and Within the Framework of Law. ”
