The vice -chairman (VC) at the University of Kannur withdrew the disputed order created by a special committee for monitoring university programs for alleged national content after the strong opposition of the members of the Syndicate and the protest of the Student Federation in India (SFI).
The tension broke out on Thursday during the Syndicate meeting outside the University Administration Office, with SFI activists representing a protest holding banners that they read: “This is not a branch, it is a university.” Demonstrators tried to slip into the office and run a short stir.
7-member panel
Most members of the Syndicate expressed the opposition to the vice -chairman of KK Saju, who forced VC to announce his withdrawal during the meeting. The order forming a seven -member committee in charge of checking programs to ensure that it did not contain any counter -content on Wednesday.
The committee included university officials and heads of various campuses, including VA Wilson, V. Reeja, K. Preathi, Johnson Alex, NK Deepak and KK Kunhammad.
The order aroused a controversy in the middle of the accusation that it was a reaction to recent university programs representing speakers critical of the Union’s government. Sangh Parivar reportedly filed a complaint, which caused speculation that this step was influenced by political pressure. It was assumed that the vice -chairman appointed by the governor, who is also the Chancellor, issued an order on the basis of these complaints.
