Kannur University launches accident insurance for students

Kannur University has introduced student accident insurance for the first time in its history by introducing a scheme with an annual premium of ₹60 per student.

A total of 17,343 students from Kannur, Kasaragod and Wayanad districts enrolled from 2025 onwards will be covered under the scheme.

More than 70% of the beneficiaries are girls. Students from approximately 125 colleges affiliated to the university will be included in the coverage.

The University is introducing an insurance policy of ₹ 5 lakh in collaboration with the National Insurance Company.

The policy documents will be handed over at a function to be held at the university campus in Thavakkara on Friday morning. The program will be opened by Vice-Chancellor Prof. KK Saju. After the inauguration, principals and campus directors of various colleges will be briefed about the implementation and features of the insurance scheme.
