Former US Vice President Kamala Harris has not ruled out a run for the presidency in 2028, saying in a recent interview that she expects a woman to lead the United States in the coming years – and “maybe” it could be her.
“I’m not done,” Harris told the BBC.
According to public opinion polls
Rejecting the idea that polls might dictate her policy decisions, Harris recalled her long career in public service:
“I’ve lived a life of service my whole career, and it’s in my bones. And there are many ways to serve. I’ve never listened to the polls. If I’d listened to the polls, I wouldn’t have run for my first or second office — and I certainly wouldn’t be sitting here.”
Criticism of Donald Trump
Harris also reflected on her predictions about Donald Trump, claiming that her warnings about authoritarian behavior have come true.
“He said he was going to weaponize the Justice Department — and that’s exactly what he did,” she said, pointing to ABC’s suspension of host Jimmy Kimmel after he joked about the Republican response to the death of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk.
She added: “Look at what happened in terms of how he weaponized, for example, federal agencies going after political satirists… His skin is so thin that he couldn’t take criticism for a joke, and he tried to shut down an entire media organization in the process.”
Criticism of entrepreneurs and institutions
Harris also criticized American businesses and institutions that she believes have capitulated to Trump’s demands.
“There are many… who have capitulated since day one, who bend the knee at the foot of the tyrant, I believe for many reasons, including wanting to be next to power, wanting to possibly have the merger approved or avoid investigation.”
