The Kalasha Jyoti procession of Goddess Kanaka Durga was taken out with grandeur to the Indrakeeladri peak on Thursday evening, on the occasion of the 44th annual celebration of the Bhavani Deeksha tradition.
Devotees participated in large numbers, carrying lighted kalashas and chanting ‘Jai Jai Durga’, turning the streets of the city into a spiritual spectacle.
Bhavani Deeksha, inspired by verses of Lalita Sahasranama that glorify goddesses like Bhavānī, Bhadrāpriya, Bhaktasaubhāgya Dāyinī, is observed since 1981, under the leadership of Kanchi Kamakoti Peethadhipatis.
It was the same year that the Kalasha Jyoti procession was first introduced and Thursday’s event marked the completion of 44 years, temple scholars said.
The procession began at 6 pm from the premises of Satyaranayanapuram Ramakoti where the temple priests performed rituals before installing the sacred fire on the beautifully decorated chariot that symbolized the divine couple.
Thousands of Bhavani devotees from different areas offered Kalasha Jyotis at the temple and availed free darshan and prasadam.
