Swarna Bharat Trust Managing Trustee Deepa Venkat said on Sunday (December 21, 2025) that all steps will be taken to create the Kalamalla inscription of 575 CE, which is believed to be the first inscription entirely in Telugu script, known worldwide.
Ms. Deepa Venkat, daughter of former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, formally unveiled the replica inscription stone at the CP Brown Library and Research Center in Kadapa at a function organized by the Janumaddi Sahithi Peetham on Sunday.
The event commemorates the centenary of litterateur Janumaddi Hanumath Sastry (1925 – 2025) who was fondly called as ‘Brown Sastry’ in reference to his contribution to the development of the CP Brown Library.
It may be recalled that the replica was specially made by Swarna Bharat Trust and installed in the library premises, while the original inscription stone is kept at its original location at Kalamalla village in Yerraguntla mandal.
“It is up to everyone to popularize the Telugu language around the world and also pass on its literary magnificence to posterity,” she said, crediting her father Venkaiah Naidu for the idea of creating a replica of the inscription and entrusting her with the task.
Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao, President of the P. Trivikrama Rao Official Language Commission paid rich tributes to British Charles Phillip Brown for initiating steps to revive Telugu and wanted every Telugu to show such spirit towards their mother tongue.
Brown Library advisory committee member Janumaddi Vijayabhaskar recalled the role of the Swarna Bharat Trust in making the replica, calling it another effort by the trust to preserve ancient traditions and culture.
Yogi Vemana University Vice-Chancellor B. Rajasekhar accompanied Ms. Deepa Venkat to an exhibition on rare inscriptions and scientific publications at the library.
