According to the Minister for Higher Education, the proposed University of Kalaignar will temporarily function at the premises of the Government Art School in Kumbakonami. Chezhiaan.
The Minister said Hindu that the university will start working since the academic year 2025-26. It would temporarily work on the campus of the Government Art School for Men in Kumbakonami. Head officials of the Department of Higher Education inspected the campus. The steps to introduce all necessary infrastructure were taken to fulfill their duties and obligations.
Until the construction of new buildings, Mr. Chezhiaan said that the university will work in a temporary facility. The process of identifying a suitable place for the university has been turned on. A place measuring about 60 hectares on Kumbakonam and Valangaiman was considered. Officials of the Ministry of Income were asked to provide details about websites and the final decision will soon be taken.
According to sources, the jurisdiction of the University of Bharathidasan will be reduced after the foundation of the University of Kalaignar. The University of Bharathidasan, based in Tiruchi, currently has Juresdiction over all the art and scientific universities in Tiruchi, Karur, Arialur, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Thanjavur and Nagapattinam. It has about 156 institutions under its inspections. The colleges in Thanjavur, Tiruverur, Arrier and Nagapatt are expected to be brought to Browgt under the jurisdiction of the University of Kalaignar.
