Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) president and former Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran on Thursday alleged that the complaint filed against him by Unnikrishnan Potti, the main accused in the Sabarimala gold theft case, was part of an attempt to tarnish his reputation ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
In his complaint to the state police chief, Mr. Potti alleged that Mr. Surendran was involved in a conspiracy to falsely implicate him in a land dispute. He claimed that a woman named Prathibha had recently approached the special investigation team probing the gold theft case and accused him of duping her in a land deal.
“According to Mr. Potti’s claim, I attended mediation talks in this land dispute at Thumba police station in 2024. I have not gone to the police station even once in the last ten years, nor do I know anyone named Prathibha. This complaint comes as I am preparing to contest the assembly elections. It is not difficult to understand,” he said, who could have instigated my complaint to instigate my complaint.
