K-RIDE distributes insurance certificates to project affected families along BSRP Corridor-2

Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Ltd. (K-RIDE) on Wednesday distributed Social Security Term Insurance Certificates to Project Affected Persons (PAP) along Corridor-2 of the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP).

The distribution took place during the Skill Development and Livelihood Rehabilitation Orientation Program held in Yeshwantapur, according to the report.

Lakshman Singh, Executive Director of K-RIDE, handed over certificates to PAPs, including slum dwellers, squatters and members of the project workforce. Mr. Singh emphasized the importance of integrating social safeguards with infrastructure development. He said the BSRP is not only about improving urban mobility and reducing congestion and emissions, but also about ensuring fair compensation, social security and livelihood restoration for communities affected by major infrastructure projects.

As part of the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP), 263 project-affected persons were identified along the 1.2 km stretch of Corridor-2 in Lingarajapuram and Banaswadi through a detailed census and socio-economic survey. This included 100 notified slum dwellers and 163 squatters. With the support of the Karnataka Slum Development Board, financial assistance was provided to eligible PAPs after consultation and publication of claims. Many families voluntarily resettled after receiving the support they required, the report said.

The program was focused on long-term livelihood restoration. Staff from the Rural Development and Self-Employment Institute (RUDSETI) informed the participants about various opportunities for skill development and entrepreneurship. “The convener of the State Level Bankers’ Committee elaborated the social security and insurance schemes of the State and Central Governments.
