Avinash Nair, an employee of a private company in Ahmedabad, is anxious to the introduction of the K-Homes project announced in the last budget by the state government. A native of Malayalapuzha has an unoccupied property near the MalayAlaPuzha Devi temple in Pathanamthitta, a district home of many well -known temples.
K-HOMY assumes that he rents unoccupied houses in tourist destinations in Kerala tourists as a holiday. The project seeks to develop the basic infrastructure of tourism by maximizing the usefulness of unoccupied houses. In the initial phase, it was planned to be carried out within 10 km of tourist destinations such as Fort Kochi, Kumarakom, Kovallam and Munnar.
11.89 Lakh free houses
However, no house was rented approximately six months after the project announcement. According to data on the census in 2011, Kerala has around 11.89 free houses (now estimated 15 Lakh-ODD houses). According to the original proposal, the project offers homeowners income and ensures maintenance and safety of these houses.
Pathanamthitta has the highest concentration of premium unoccupied houses and villas in the state. “My property has been free in the last few years, especially after the outbreak of Covid-19, when my parents moved to my sister’s house in Kochi. I was not interested in renting property because of the risks. Therefore, I decided to make the property available for tourists,” Mr. Nair said.
Keral’s tourism sources said Hindu said that the Ministry recently convened a meeting in the preparation of the project for the project. Soon another round of the meeting will be convened, considering the proposals of the parties. The budget has earned £ 5 for initial project expenses.
Lack of quality rooms
Although Kerala has the highest number of stellar hotels in the country, it has a lack of quality rooms to meet the needs of budget and luxury class of tourists. The main requirement for attraction of foreign tourists is the availability of quality hotel rooms. Although the project ran part of the hospitality industry, especially homeowners who were against the provision of budget support for unoccupied houses, because most of such dwellings are owned by rich non -resident Indians, the tourism industry was in favor of the project because it was in favor of the project.
