The leg-spinner took 16 wickets in 14 matches as PBKS went to the final where they were defeated by RCB. Chahal told De Villiers that he is looking to break the IPL title jinx with Punjab and is eager to perform well during the tournament. Spiner also said the decision to quit drinking came from wanting to be a role model for the young players in the squad.
“I quit drinking alcohol and it’s been more than six months now. I’m 35 now, so I want to be more active and give 150% for my team. As a senior player, I want people in IPL to learn something from me,” Chahal said.
WHAT MADE CHAHAL FOCUS MORE ON HEALTH?
Chahal revealed that he was disappointed with himself during IPL 2025 as he was unable to perform well due to rib and joint injuries. Spiner said he wanted to take care of his body first and ensure he was playing at his peak for the upcoming season.
“I was a bit disappointed with myself. After the KKR game, I had a fractured rib and later I broke my knuckle. So I was not able to swing my leg properly in the semi-final and final. I want to take care of my body first this year,” Chahal said.
Chahal will also be hoping to use IPL 2026 as a way to get back into the Indian team’s contention. Chahal last played an international match for India in 2023 and has remained on the sidelines ever since.
