Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh High Court on Wednesday (September 9, 2026).

Justice Bhati administered the oath to Ladakh Governor VK Saxen.

Mr. Saxena is currently holding the additional charge as LG of Jammu and Kashmir as incumbent Manoj Sinha is on leave.

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, judges of the Supreme Court and subordinate courts.

The Center on September 5 announced the appointment of Justice Bhati as the Chief Justice of the Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.

Justice Bhati took over from Justice Sanjeev Kumar who was serving as Acting Chief Justice.

The Supreme Court collegium recommended Justice Bhati as the Chief Justice. He previously served as a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court.
