Punjab Kings’ Shashank Singh once again had a horror day in the field. Playing against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Shashank dropped a simple catch to KL Rahul on the boundary and then looked to run away as he ran to the right. The finisher continued his poor show from the team’s previous game where he dropped three catches against Lucknow Super Giants and saw one ball fly past him for a boundary.
On Saturday, April 25, Punjab Kings coach Ricky Ponting saw Shashank after two chances and pulled him off the field. Shashank’s first mistake came in the 3rd over of the match when KL Rahul tried to bowl Arshdeep Singh through leg. Standing at mid-wicket, Shashank tried to catch the ball with the Australian reverse cup technique and ended up spilling the catch.

Soon after the dropped catch, Shashank spilled another chance on the boundary, which saw the ball go through his hands and end up at the fence on the boundary. The player was soon taken off the field and replaced by youngster Suryansh Shedge.
Broadcasters asked Punjab coach Ricky Ponting about the team’s fielding standards and he said that the team holds itself to very high standards.
“That’s probably very fair to say. We’ve set ourselves a pretty high standard. Yeah, and we’ve been pretty good most of the time. We were a bit off in the last game as well and we didn’t start that well today. So we know where we are now,” Ponting said of the team’s performance on Saturday.
What followed was a series of memes from Punjab fans who couldn’t help but laugh at what Shashank kept doing on the field.
In the previous match, at their home ground in Mullanpur, Ponting remained furious at the team’s repeated slumps. The head coach did not give any reaction at the time, despite the team’s huge win over Rishabh Pant’s side.
However, today’s dropped catches really hurt Punjab as KL Rahul reached his fifty in just 26 balls. The team’s poor fielding also saw Nitish Rana race into his fifties, which saw Delhi Capitals score 142 runs in just 12 overs.
Punjab Kings come into this match against Delhi with an unbeaten record in the Indian Premier League 2026 season. Punjab have played 6 matches so far out of which they have won 5. One of their matches was washed out by rain at Eden Gardens.
