Justice N. Anand Venkates of the Madras High Court decided on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) to see how Andrea Jeremiah-Starrer Tamil “Manushi” during a private screening in Chennai on Sunday, August 24), rejected as a CBFC (CBFC). 37 Reduction.
The judge came to the decision under a written petition filed by C. Vetri Maaran, also a recognized director who challenged 37 cuts that were compulsory than CBFC could certify the film to be sufficiently suitable for public screenings at Kin Theaters.
The film was made under a film company for the production of a banner for the production of the petitioner and directed Tamil’s film “Aramm” Gopi Nainar. The trailer released by the actor Vijay Sethupathi in April 2024 showed that this is a story that revolves around the torture of a woman suspect, that she is a terrorist.
In September 2024, the CBFC Inquiry Committee and the Screening Committee watched the film along the entire length and refused to release the censorship certificate for the film on the basis of portraying the state in the wrong light and confuse the “left -wing communism” with “ordinary communism”.
Earlier petition
Mr. Maaran turned to the High Court with his first written petition in June 2025, which challenged a blanket rejection of the censor certificate. He said that he was not given the opportunity to be heard before the rejection of the censorship certificate, nor informed of the individual views of the members of the censors.
The producer stated that 29 March 2025 presented CBFC’s representation of CBFC, which applied for the Institute of Association composed of Human Rights to Re -Review, and sought the direction of CBFC to consider its representation and publish the rhetorical proceedings.
Then Judge Venkatesh wondered how a blanket rejection of the censor certificate could occur without eliminating inappropriate scenes, sequences, visual elements, dialogues, audio clips and other aspects before the certificate was released.
On June 17th, the judge destroyed the first written petition after the submission of CBFC noted that the film had reviewed this film according to the court’s instructions and stated inappropriate parts that required regulations. Then the judge also allowed the petitioner to continue in accordance with the law.
Second petition
Mr. Maaran came to the High Court, saying that the current petition claimed that CBFC was not considering a film in the light of well -established instructions and that it insisted on adjustments to simple dialogues such as “Saniyan” (Tamil term used to swear people).
When the second written petition was introduced in front of Judge Venkatesh on Tuesday, he said he had no choice but to watch the film himself, along with the committee members to see if they were entitled to propose 37 cuts.
On Sunday afternoon in Chennai ordered parties to play for the film at the Private Theater in Dr. DGS Dhinakaran Salai (formerly known as Greenways Road) in Chennai and asked for the presence of CBFC members in Chennai.
