The Andhra Pradesh Commissionerate of Higher Education on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Mahavidyapeetha (JSS Mahavidyapeetha) to set up an off-campus JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER) in Tirupati.

Higher Education Commissioner Narayana Bharat Gupta and JSS Mahavidyapeetha Director of Technical Education and JSS Pro-Chancellor AHER B. Suresh exchanged signed documents in the presence of Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh.

Under the agreement, the institution will immediately set up the JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSSAHER) off campus in Tirupati and explore setting up other JSS group institutions in the future. Based in Mysuru, JSS AHER is a NAAC A++ accredited Deemed University and ranked 21st among universities in the NIRF 2025 ranking.

The proposed Tirupati campus will be built around five integrated schools that include advanced engineering and technology, life sciences, biotechnology and behavioral sciences, health and allied sciences, business and entrepreneurship and law, humanities, politics and administration, offering 74 programs and catering to more than 10,000 students at full capacity.

The campus will be anchored by Centers of Excellence in AI in Healthcare, Semiconductor Applications, Health Policy and Governance, Public Administration, Translational Biotechnology, Healthcare Entrepreneurship and Aerospace Medicine. These will be supported by industrial innovation centers in Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Bengaluru.

The State Government will provide necessary support for the establishment of JSS AHER off campus and other groups of institutions in Andhra Pradesh. The initiative is expected to create over 20,000 direct and indirect employment and livelihood opportunities and help reverse brain drain by retaining the state’s talent, students and researchers.
