JSP leader Swaroop Rani’s nomination for two ZPTC seats rejected
A delay in the process of handing over her vote to either Kovvuru or Sithanagaram led to her nomination being rejected by the 24th.
Nominations filed by AP Tourism Development Corporation Director Ganta Swaroopa Rani for seats in Kovvuru and Sithanagaram Zilla Parishad (ZPTC) Territorial Constituencies in East Godavari district were rejected citing the absence of her vote in the final vote list in two mandals (Kovvuru and Sithanagaram).
Ms Swaroopa Rani is the Jana Sena Party (JSP) aspirant for the post of East Godavari Zilla Parishad Chairperson.
ZPTC elections are held using voter lists, the deadline of which is January 1, 2026.
Ms Swaroopa Rani exercised her right to vote in Rajamahendravaram Rural Constituency during the 2024 General Elections.
East Godavari Zilla Parishad Director General and ZPTC Electoral Returning Officer M. Raju told The Hindu; “Ms. Swaroopa Rani applied for transfer of her vote (from Rajamahendravaram rural) to Kovvuru and Sithanagaram mandals. However, the process of transferring her vote was not completed in both the mandals till October 24, so she was not eligible to accept her nomination papers for the ZPTC elections.”
Ms. Swaroopa Rani has applied for transfer of her vote to either Kovvur or Sithanagaram mandals, hoping to contest whichever mandal the transfer process is completed before the ZPTC nomination scrutiny deadline.
