Jana Sena Party (JSP) district president and Anantapur-Hindupur Urban Development Authority (AHUDA) chairman TC Varun alleged that the previous YSRCP government was involved in widespread corruption while awarding the contract to supply ghee for the laddus temple in Tirumala.
Addressing the media in Anantapur on Wednesday, Mr. Varun claimed that the contract to supply the ghee was given to a company that was not involved in the dairy business. “The firms awarded the tenders were not even involved in taking milk (from dairy farmers),” he said, adding that all the prescribed norms had been changed for awarding contracts.
Mr. Varun claimed that 60 lakh kg of ghee was supplied without using milk, curd or butter as ingredients. “Every drop of ghee supplied was adulterated. The chemical-made liquid was supplied as ghee. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has made it clear that synthetic ghee was supplied,” he alleged.
The JSP leader said that despite the SIT exposing the ghee adulteration issue, the YSRCP is trying to deceive the people. Those who helped the companies get the contract to supply ghee are still in the YSRCP, he said, adding that the party had created an uproar without fearing that their misdeeds would come to light.
Mr. Varun said the investigation would reveal the truth behind the scam and alleged that YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was not bothered by the sentiments of Hindus and resorted to scandal.
He also said that the YSRCP is targeting Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan with its nonsensical remarks. “We will not sit silently if YSRCP criticizes Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Mr. Pawan Kalyan,” he warned.
