Journalists’ unions have condemned former chief minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s remarks against media organizations that he made recently.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Indian Journalist Union (IJU) general secretary D. Somasundar, AP Union of Working Journalists president IV Subba Rao and AP Electronic Media Journalists Association president Yechuri Shiva said it was inappropriate for the former chief minister to talk about the corruption of some national media organisations.
They said Mr Jagan’s remarks reflected his long-standing disregard for the media.
The union leaders pointed out that it is unbecoming of him to repeatedly make defamatory and disparaging comments about the media when he was and is now the chairman of a political party and heads a media organization himself.
They criticized the fact that in the opposition, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy did not change his tone. They described the comments as unfortunate and recalled that during the YSRCP tenure, Mr. Jagan often targeted certain media organizations with repeated verbal attacks.
