
Thayil Jacob Sony George, known as TJs George, died on Friday 3rd October at a private hospital in Bengalur. He was 97.
George, award -winning Padma Bhushan, was widely respected for his cut writings, often marked by satire and sarcasm.
He was survived by his children, Sheb Thayil and the author-poet Jeet Thayil.
Who was TJs George?
TJS George was a renowned journalist and author.
He was the editorial advisor of New Indian Express and gained recognition for his widely read weekly column, a point of view that he wrote for 25 years until 2022 and continued until his death at the age of 94.
George came from Kerala and spent most of his life in Bengalur and Coimbatore.
Why did the TJs George Padma Bhushan get TJ?
In 2011, TJs George won Padma Bhushan in 2011, the third highest civil prize of India. George won the Award for his excellent contribution to literature and education.
Condolence poured
The Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiaha, the sadness of his demise, said about X: “He was sadly released by a veteran journalist, editor and author of TJs George.
The Minister of the Union HD Kumaraswamy also expressed his condolences and recorded George’s contributions in various roles, including the editor, editorial director and editorial advisor of national and international newspapers.
“I carefully read a column of view written in the new Indian Express. After reading his book MS – Life in Music, I was intrigued by his writing talent, based on the life of a great musician SMT MS Subbulakshmi,” Kumaraswamy wrote on X.
“May the lies rest in eternal peace, and may God grant his family, fans and good friends the power to bear sorrow,” he added.
The leader of the Shashi Tharoor congress also noted George’s contributions to literature and his fearless commentary and said his books “will live for a long time”.
