Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi and BJP MP and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar met and consoled the family of the love jihad victim at different times in Hubballi on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters later, Mr Joshi said he had already spoken to the Commissioner of Police and asked him to investigate the case thoroughly as it appeared to be the work of a systematic network involved in Love Jihad.
He said an injustice had been done to two young girls and all the culprits should be punished.
On the issue of old video clips regarding victims of love jihad, the Union minister said any attempt to indulge in vote bank politics will be strongly opposed and the BJP will take to the streets.
He also questioned the reason for registering a case against the Hindutva activists who caught the accused Sameer Mulla and handed him over to the police.
Earlier in the day, Jagadish Shettar visited the victim’s family and assured them that he will stand with them till justice is served.
Meanwhile, members of Hindutva outfits submitted a memorandum to the police commissioner demanding the withdrawal of the case against the Hindutva activists who had handed over the accused to the police.
