Jos Buttler makes history for England to join Quinton de Kock in elite T20I list
Chester-le-Street (England), July 1 (ANI): India’s Harshit Rana was hit by England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler during the 1st T20I at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on Wednesday. (NOT a photo) Despite rain washing out the opening T20I against India, England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler achieved a major personal milestone by completing 100 dismissals in T20 Internationals. Buttler reached the milestone when he produced a lightning-quick stomp to dismiss Harshit Rana off the bowling of Adil Rashid during India’s innings. The former England captain was quick to collect Rashid’s googly after Rana charged down the pitch looking for a big hit. Defeated at the turn, the Indian batsman failed to get back in time as Buttler dropped the bails in a flash to record his 100th T20I dismissal behind the stumps.With this performance, Buttler became only the second wicketkeeper in T20I history and the first for England to complete 100 dismissals, joining South Africa’s Quinton de Kock who leads the list with 117 dismissals.
Match abandoned
India’s first T20I against England at Chester-le-Street ended scoreless after persistent rain prevented England from starting their chase of 190. After opting to bat, India recovered from 6/2 thanks to 59 off 24 balls from Abhishek Sharma and a composed 68 off 47 miles from captain I5er,00 international runs. Shivam Dube’s unbeaten 42 off 21 provided the final momentum as India posted 189/7 while Saqib Mahmood bowled for England, taking 3/33. However, heavy rain after the innings break forced the match to be abandoned without a ball being bowled in the English innings.
