
Jon Jones issued a long statement after his retirement from UFC on Saturday 21 June. UFC CEO Dana White revealed that Jones called them to say that he decided to retire And Tom Aspinall would be a new UFC champion in heavy weight.
“Bones” debuted in 2008 at the age of 21 and became the youngest champion in the history of the organization by winning a light strap with heavy weight by defeating Shogun Ru. Jones had one of the most dominant titles in MMA history and continued to claim the UFC Heavyweight title by defeating Ciryl Gane at UFC 285. His last match with UFC came up against Stipe MioCic on UFC 309 In November 2024.
When Jones got to X, he said that the decision came after many reflections and thanked UFC, Dan White, the family, the team and his fans. The former heavy weight champion said he was looking forward to new opportunities and challenges and claimed that the best was yet to come.
“Today I officially announce my retirement from UFC. This decision comes after many reflections and I want to express my deepest gratitude for the journey I have experienced over the years.”
“I entered the octagon for the first time, my goal was to move the boundaries of what was possible in this sport. I became the youngest UFC champion in history, defending my title against some of the best fighters in the world and sharing unforgettable moments that weighed me strongly.”
“I want to thank UFC, Dan, Hunter, Lorenz, God, my family, coaches, teammates and all fans who stood me through every chapter. Your unwavering support and belief was my foundation.”
“When I conclude this chapter of my life, I look forward to the new opportunities and challenges before us. MMA will always be part of who I am, and I am excited to see how I can continue to contribute to sport and inspire other new ways.
“Don’t believe everything you read online”
On Saturday there were reports that appeared just after the announcement of retirement that Jones had been charged for an offense for escape from the accident. Jones dealt with a cryptic tweet and said the media can sometimes do things wrong and do not believe everything you read online.
“Keep in mind that even the media may sometimes be bad if they don’t have all the facts. Don’t believe everything you read online,” Jones said.
Jones ended his career with a record of 28 victories, 1 loss and 1 NENONTEST.
