The film director and founder of Ma-AP Dileep Raja opposed the proposals to be selected by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
On Wednesday he spoke with Hindu and questioned the need for a common process by renaming his prizes after the poet Gaddar and carrying out them independently. “When Telangana gave out prizes named Gaddar, did Andhra Pradesh include?” he asked.
Mr. Raja, who quoted the reorganization Act Andhra Pradesh, noted that both states have independent chief ministers and corporations for the development of film and the decision must comply with the legal provisions. He said the selection of Telangana awards reflects her own cultural identity and social context, which may differ from Andhra Pradesh criteria.
While films are released in both states, he stressed that the Nandi Awards Committee should choose the winners strictly on merit to ensure transparency. He also urged the government to consult the members of the Andr Pradesh film industry before creating a new film policy.
