Days after Donald Trump’s former counterterrorism official resigned, revealing a rare disagreement within the administration over the Iran conflict, Joe Kent appeared to be praising the president of the United States. In a post on X, Kent said Trump was working to make peace with Iran, while again acknowledging Israel’s opposition.
He said a peace deal would be a good thing for the United States and America’s allies in the Persian Gulf region. Joe Kent said in one: “President Trump is working to make peace with Iran, if he succeeds it will be a very good thing for our nation and our allies in the Persian Gulf.
Kent also argued that while Israel will oppose a peace deal with Iran, the president is strong enough to bring them on board. “The Israelis will be against it, but POTUS is strong and can get them on board,” the former counterterrorism official said.
When Joe Kent resigned
Last week on March 17, Joe Kent resigned over the Iran war as he also made some massive allegations against the federal government – becoming the first senior administration official to resign over the conflict.
Joe Kent posted his letter on X and stated that Iran poses “no immediate threat to our nation”. He also said that the conflict was started under pressure from Israel.
Joe Kent said: “After much consideration, I have decided to resign my position as director of the National Counterterrorism Center effective today. I cannot in good conscience support a continued war on Iran. Iran posed no immediate threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war because of pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”
In his resignation letter, Joe Kent said that the US president “understood that the wars in the Middle East were a trap that deprived America of the precious lives of our patriots and depleted the wealth and prosperity of our nation.”
He claimed that senior Israeli officials and influential members of the US media had “launched a disinformation campaign” to stoke pro-war sentiment and support a war with Iran.
“This echo chamber was used to deceive you into believing that Iran was an imminent threat to the United States, and if you attacked now, there was a clear path to a quick victory. It was a lie, and it is the same tactic that the Israelis used to drag us into a disastrous war in Iraq that cost our nation the lives of thousands of our best men and women,” he repeated the mistake.
