For generations, climbing the corporate ladder in India meant moving to major metro cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru or Delhi. However, the geography of success is changing.
According to data from a recent LinkedIn survey, two-thirds of professionals today say they work to live, not the other way around. This increased focus on balancing career ambitions with overall quality of life has triggered what the internet calls a “reverse brain drain.”
The balance, LinkedIn said, lies outside of major metropolitan cities—Tier 2 cities are seeing the rise of telecommuting, massive investments in technology, or companies escaping metro oversaturation.
So the best talent has now decided not to struggle with traffic and high housing costs, and is following the growth of jobs to the emerging centers.
