Late night host Jimmy Kimmel fired back at President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, characterizing the marathon speech as “angry,” divisive and at times incoherent.
Kimmel opened his monologue and didn’t hold back.
“It was anger, wasn’t it? It was an angry speech. The theme of today’s speech was ‘All foreigners are murderers’.”
Trump’s speech, which reportedly lasted 107 minutes — breaking his own record for the longest speech of the year — touched on immigration, the economy, tariffs and health care.
However, Kimmel focused on what he saw as a darker tone and exaggerated claims.
“What a speech that was”
Kimmel mocked the length and structure of the speech, questioning whether it could even be considered a speech.
“When you’re rambling mostly incoherently for two hours, is that technically still speech, or does it become gibberish at some point?”
He added another punch: “What a speech that was.”
Kimmel criticizes Trump over DEI and Food Stamp cuts
Kimmel focused on the policy points Trump offered during the speech, including ending DEI initiatives and removing millions from food assistance programs.
“He bragged about ending DEI. He bragged about kicking two million people off food stamps. It was like a Christmas message from the Grinch.”
Mock up delivery
In addition to political criticism, Kimmel focused on Trump’s appearance and delivery.
“His hair looked like a cloud on a sweet potato.
He continued, “His drab sweat and makeup combined to create a frothy, homemade orange Julius on his face.”
At one point, Kimmel compared Trump’s cognitive state to that of President Joe Biden.
“I have to say: Trump’s dementia makes me really miss Joe Biden’s dementia. It was a much friendlier dementia.”
Hockey teams
Trump recognized the U.S. men’s ice hockey team during his 2026 Olympic gold medal speech. Kimmel noted their attendance at the White House, joking that the U.S. women’s ice hockey team got “a better deal from nobody but Flavor Flav.”
The president’s speech also reportedly omitted any mention of the Epstein files — a topic that has sparked speculation among critics.

“The Real State of the Union”
Kimmel concluded his monologue with a sharply worded assessment of the country under Trump.
“Here’s the real State of the Union, OK? We’ve got a wannabe rabbit doing everything he can to censor opinions he doesn’t want to hear.”
He continued, “He will have his goons arrest, imprison and kill American citizens. He has cut funding for cancer research and children’s hospitals while raking in literally billions of dollars for himself and his family.”
Kimmel went on to accuse the president of undermining voting rights and favoring the wealthy.
“He lines the pockets of billionaires while neglecting the sick, the poor, the hungry. By the way, in the name of Jesus, which you could read all about in Donald Trump’s edition of the God Bless the USA Bible, which is made in China and available for $99.99. That’s the State of the Union.”
An ongoing dispute
The monologue represents the latest chapter in the ongoing public feud between Kimmel and Trump. Trump has previously criticized Kimmel and called for his show to be canceled, while Kimmel has consistently used his platform to condemn Trump’s rhetoric and policies.
Tuesday night’s episode made it clear that the animosity between the two shows no signs of cooling — and that Kimmel intends to continue making Trump the central target of his nightly commentary.
