Jemimah Rodrigues recovers from hamstring injury, strengthens India ahead of tour of South Africa

India batsman Jemimah Rodrigues has declared herself fit after spending three months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, providing a timely boost to the national team ahead of their multi-format tour of South Africa in December. The 26-year-old took to social media on Friday, October 30, to share news of her recovery after a lengthy rehab program.

Jemimah’s return to fitness comes as India prepares for a tough task against South Africa where the two teams meet in a one-off Test, three ODIs and three T20Is. With just over a month left until the start of the tour, her recovery will be welcome news for the team management, especially with the batter expected to play an important role in India’s middle order.

“Life Update: HAMSTRING HAS BEEN DECLARED FIT!!!!!!! After 3 months of rehab. Now I can’t wait to be,” Jemimah wrote on Instagram.

The right-handed batsman suffered the injury on August 3 while playing for Southern Brave against Welsh Fire in The Hundred in England. Subsequent scans at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru confirmed a high-grade tear in her right hamstring, ruling her out of the rest of the competition and several crucial assignments for India.

INTERNATIONAL COMEBACK OF JEMIMAH EYES

The injury forced Jemimah to miss the Women’s Asia Cup T20 in the UAE and the Asian Games in Japan. She also missed India’s recently concluded ODI and T20I series against Zimbabwe at home, missing out on valuable match practice during an important phase of the international calendar.

After completing her rehabilitation, Jemimah could return to competitive cricket via Mumbai in the ongoing Senior Women’s T20 Trophy before the selectors finalize the Indian squad for the tour of South Africa.

The tour will begin with a four-day Test at St George’s Park in Gqeberha from December 9-12. India will then play three ODIs on December 16, 19 and 22, followed by three T20Is on December 26, 29 and 30.

Jemimah’s availability will boost India’s batting options as they prepare for a tough away task against the reigning ODI World Cup finalists.
