Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is reportedly considering selling his massive $500 million superyacht Koru because the luxury vessel is too big to comfortably maintain.
According to a Page Six report, Bezos has quietly begun scouting potential buyers for the 417-foot sailing yacht, which is believed to be one of the world’s largest sailing vessels ever built.
A source cited by the publication said the vessel had become “too big to manage” for the billionaire businessman. The report also noted that the yacht’s increasing public visibility made it difficult for Bezos to maintain privacy while traveling.
The luxury yacht comes with an Abeona support vessel
Kora is accompanied by a $75 million support ship named Abeona, although it remains unclear whether the secondary ship is included in any potential sale discussions.
Reports estimate that the two vessels combined cost about $30 million a year to operate. The support ship is said to include a helipad and storage facilities to assist the main yacht during long-distance voyages.
The yacht itself is equipped with several ultra-luxurious features, including a glass-bottom swimming pool, three Jacuzzis, multiple decks and space for up to 18 guests. It also requires a crew of 36 people to operate.
The vessel is reportedly equipped with water cannons to deter pirates.
Built by Dutch yacht manufacturer Oceanco
The yacht, formerly known as “Project 271”, was built by Dutch custom yacht builder Oceanco.
Bezos was first linked to the project in 2021 and the yacht made its first public appearance on a sea trial in the North Sea in early 2023 before officially entering service later that year.
Koru is 417 feet long and has three towering masts, several outdoor seating areas and extensive luxury decks. The yacht is widely regarded as one of the largest sailing yachts ever built.
The mermaid statue becomes an iconic symbol
One of the most famous features of Koru is the wooden statue of a mermaid attached to the bow of the vessel.
The figure sparked widespread speculation after pictures surfaced online, with many believing it resembled Bezos’ wife, Lauren Sánchez. Sánchez later clarified that the statue actually represents Freyja, a Norse goddess associated with love, fertility, war and gold.
The statue features gold details and a Koru symbol necklace.
Menu, celebrity guests and global travel
Since launching in 2023, Koru has become closely associated with Bezos and Sánchez’s lavish lifestyle and world travel.
The couple was first photographed aboard a yacht near Mallorca in May 2023. Later that month, Bezos proposed to Sánchez while the pair were on vacation in southern France aboard a yacht.
Following their engagement, the couple traveled extensively in Europe visiting destinations including Ibiza, Cannes, Portofino and Capri.
The yacht has also hosted several famous guests, including Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, Leonardo DiCaprio, Katy Perry and Usher.
Koru also featured prominently during Bezos and Sánchez’s wedding celebrations in Venice in 2025.
