The Congress can breathe a sigh of relief as senior leader T. Jeevan Reddy agrees to abide by the party’s decision to form a council in Jagtial, where he is locked in a fight with sitting BRS MLA Sanjay Kumar, who has aligned himself with the Congress.

However, Mr. Reddy demanded that the posts of mayor and deputy mayor should be given only to Congress cadres who remained in the party during the tough times. He made this clear to Social Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar and AICC Secretary Sachin Sawanth during the reconciliation talks.

Mr. Jeevan Reddy, former Minister and Congress supremo in Karimnagar district, is unable to stomach the entry of Mr. Sanjay Kumar, to whom he lost the assembly elections. Their differences play out on a daily basis and in the municipal elections, Mr. Reddy’s followers were also ignored for Mr. Sanjay’s choice.

Mr. Reddy got only 16 Form Bs from the party and nine of them won, apart from nine rebels who were denied the party ticket. He claimed that on the other hand, Mr. Sanjay got 34 B forms for his team but only 14 candidates emerged victorious.

Meanwhile, supporters of Mr. Jeevan Reddy also strongly voiced their views before the AICC secretary and demanded that he be allotted the upcoming Rajya Sabha seat in recognition of his years of service to the party. They further sought a fair share for the Jeevan Reddy group in allotment of nominated posts.
