With civic elections to the newly created five municipal corporations under Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) limits likely in the coming months, the Janata Dal (Secular) has set its preparations in motion. Party state president HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday announced the formation of a steering committee comprising legislators, former MLAs and senior leaders to oversee the organizational work and coordination ahead of the elections.
According to a press release, the panel comprises A. Manju, Arkalgud MLA; MT Krishnappa, Turuvekere MLA; MLCs TA Sharavana and TN Javarayi Gowda; Nikhil Kumaraswamy, Yuva JD(S) state unit president; former Vice-Chairman M. Krishna Reddy; former MLAs Suresh Gowda and A. Manjunath; Bengaluru City unit president HM Ramesh Gowda and former MLC KA Tippeswamy.
Panel role
The committee was entrusted with the establishment of departmental organizational units in the newly established city corporations and the strengthening of the party’s base. These local units will consist of senior leaders, former corporators and candidates who have contested previous Assembly elections.
Mr. Kumaraswamy also directed the panel to prepare plans for coordination and seat-sharing with alliance partners in the NDA bloc and devise an election strategy suitable for each civic body, the report said.
