US Vice President JD Vance has announced a new book, Communion, detailing his spiritual journey and return to Christianity through Catholicism.
“I’ve been writing this book for a long time and I’m honored to finally be able to share the full story with all of you. Communion is about my personal journey and how I found my way back to faith,” Vance wrote on X.
Reflecting on his past, he said in a statement: “The story of how I regained my faith, of course, only happened because I lost it in the beginning.”
Exploring the loss and rediscovery of faith
Vance said the book grapples with deeper questions about his spiritual shift earlier in life.
“The interesting question that hangs over this book and over my mind is why I ever went astray. Why the Christian faith of my youth failed to take root properly,” he wrote.
The 304-page book, written over the course of several years starting in 2019, will also include reflections on his work in politics.
From Atheism to Catholicism
Vance previously spoke about transitioning from Christianity to atheism before converting to Catholicism in 2019. He credits his faith with giving him new purpose and direction.
Political timing will spark 2028
The announcement is likely to fuel speculation about a potential 2028 presidential run, though Vance downplayed such plans.
He indicated that any decision on the campaign would not come until after the 2026 election.
Focused on Family: Usha Vance Launches Podcast
The book announcement comes shortly after his wife Usha Vance launched a children’s podcast called “Storytime with the Second Lady” to promote reading.
The couple have three young children, and Usha Vance is expecting their fourth child, a boy, due in late July.
