Amber Fortress is located in the Aravalli Mountains, almost 11 km from the center of Jaipur. It is a large palace complex built with light yellow, pink sandstone and white marble. The fortress is divided into four main sections, each of which has its own courtyard.
Amber was the capital of Kachhwaha Rajputs before they moved their capital to Jaipur. Man Singh, at the end of the 16th century I started the construction of a new Palace complex.
After Raja Man Singh I, Mirza Raja Jai Singh I and Sawai Jai Singh II made several modifications, including the interiors of the fortress.
The fortress was built in four phases and the palace inside was the residence of Rajput Maharajas and their families.
It consists of “Diwan-A-Aam”, “Diwan-E-Khaas” (Hall of Private Public), “Sheesh Mahal” (Mirror Palace) and “Sukh Niwas”.
In Sheesh Mahal, there are numerous slight mirrors on the walls in a unique arrangement. Even a single beam of light entering the palace is reflected in a way that illuminates the whole corridor.
Sukh Niwas is known for its distinctive cooling feature created by winds blowing through cascading water.
