In the introduction to each test series, there is a well -known buzz around Jasprit Bumrah and as India plans to drive its workload. Return from great back injury, absence of masters, carefully designed rhythm of rest and gaming-everything has a sense of the most valuable asset of India.
But while Bumhrah’s calendar is mapped with surgical accuracyMohammed Siraj was out in the trenches and grinded by sitting, day after day, series after the series. And now it is time for someone to say it out loud – Siraj also gained his share on this workload pillow.
Siraj, a tireless work horse
He did not appear in the ongoing test series against England – he took over. With 13 goals out of three matches, the graphs lead. Its six-member haul in the first shifts in Edgbaston was a wrestler-turner In India, the only victory of the series is so far. He bowed to 109 over – more than Bumrah, who after the second test threw 86.4. Among all the fast pitchers in the series, only English Chris Woakes (121) and Brydon Cars (117) bowed more.
The Indian assistant coach Ryan that Govicheate summed up perfectly before the fourth test for Old Trafford: “It is equally important to manage the workload of someone like Mohammed Siraj, who is always ready for these other exceeds.”
And then came a line that perhaps best describes Siraj cricket: “We take for granted what luck we are like that.
Siraj is constantly running while Bumhrah gets breaks
These numbers back up. Since the beginning of 2023, Siraj has bowed more testing than any other Indian stimulation – 569.4 of them, more precisely. He played in 24 of the last 27 India tests and ranked third among Quicks in this period, behind Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. Basically, it was the ubiquitous Indian pace engine.
And all this while the reflector was firmly on Bumrah. Before the start of the series, the main selector of India Ajit Agarkar clarified it – Bumrah would only appear in three out of five tests. Reason? Smart planning, considering its history with back injuries and a heavy calendar forward.
After the defeat in Headingley, head coach India Gautam Gambhir repeated the same thing: regardless of the result of the match or situation of the series, Bumhrah’s participation would hold the original plan of three tests. No rush. No risks.
But Siraj? He made the hard yards quietly. Long spells when the ball disappeared. Unfasting exceeding when the goals do not come. Extra pressure when someone else needed a break. He was a guy who turned India over and over again – and more often than not, he was released with fire in his eyes.
Mohammed Siraj does not always have to discuss the workload in India, but has more than earning a place.
So while Bumhrah Days come up with planning plates and press conference questions, it’s time for Siraj to get a similar place at this table. Maybe he doesn’t have to ask for it – but he earned it.
