The SG Pipers have finalized their senior squad for Hockey India League Season 2, naming Olympian Jarmanpreet Singh as the men’s team captain and Australian midfielder Ky Willott as the vice-captain. In the women’s squad, striker Navneet Kaur continues as captain, while Australia’s Kaitlin Nobbs was named vice-captain ahead of her first season with the franchise.
Jarmanpreet, an Olympic bronze medallist, said he was delighted to take on the role and was confident of the team’s potential. “I want to thank our coaches and management for giving me this opportunity. With a strong mix of junior and senior players, we are confident of building a strong team and aim to win the title,” said Jarmanpreet.
Navneet, who led the women’s team last season, said she was grateful to be retained as captain. “Thank you again SG Pipers for choosing me as the captain of SG Pipers women’s team. I am sure we will do well this season,” said Navneet. She added that the team worked closely with head coach Sofie Gierts and assistant coach Helen Mary during the auction. “In view of the shortcomings of the last season, we planned the auction together. I am sure that our preparation will be reflected in our performances.”
Men’s meetings are in accordance with SG Pipers effort to strengthen their direction on the field. Jarmanpreet was one of the team’s standout players last season and contributed significantly to India’s Asia Cup 2025 win. Willott impressed with his work rate and control of the game and is heading into the league after helping Hockey Club Melbourne win the Hockey One title on Sunday.
A group of female leaders combines experience and poise. Navneet remains the focal point of the team’s attacking structure, while Nobbs adds defensive stability following his role in the Perth Thundersticks’ Hockey One title win last weekend.
Men’s head coach Tim Oudenaller said the leadership group will set high standards. “We are delighted to announce that Jarmanpreet will be our captain this season. With his experience and dedication, he will be able to lead the team to its highest potential,” he said. “Ky will be vice-captain this season. Despite his age, he brings considerable experience from last season and is well equipped to support Jarmanpreet.”
Women’s head coach Sofie Gierts said Navneet reflects the team’s values and praised Nobbs’ influence. “Her integrity, calm intensity and exceptional hockey talent make her an ideal leader. Kaitlin brings a leadership style that thrives under pressure while always supporting her teammates.”
The women’s league starts on December 28, followed by the men’s league on January 3. SG Pipers enter the season bolstered by the addition of defender Rupinder Pal Singh to the men’s team and midfielder Udit to the women’s side. Director of Hockey Sreejesh PR worked with coaches and senior players during the mini-auction to build teams capable of challenging for Hero Hockey India League titles this year.
