
Japan will vote on Sunday in its early elections to choose members for the 465 seats in the country’s House of Representatives.
The House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the country’s national assembly.
The election comes four months after Sanae Takaichi took office as Japan’s prime minister. Her premiership began when she won the presidential election of the Democratic Party and became the head of the Liberal Democratic Party-Ishin coalition.
Departure Surveys:
All exit polls predicted a decisive victory for the LDP-Ishin alliance. An opinion poll by Japan’s public broadcaster NHK predicts a Takaichi alliance of 302-366 seats. The opposition is expected to win 73-167 seats.
Results Date:
Voting for Japan’s general election will end at 8:00 p.m. (local time) on Sunday, while the results will be announced around noon on Monday, February 9, according to the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
